Peony Care For Winter

Peony Care For Winter

Peonies are one of the most planted flowers in the garden. And rightly so! Their gorgeous Pom Pom flowers add a whole lot of joy to any spring landscape. Pruning them back in the fall is a great way to keep your Peonies healthy and disease free along with cleaning any plant debris on the ground around them.

Once you've pruned your peonies back in the late fall, add compost and a bit of love around the stems to complete peony care for winter. Since I made this video, I've had more success when keeping their eyes exposed over the winter opposed to covering them with 2 inches of soil. The blooms came back much stronger and quicker in the spring. Try it and see what works best for you. If you do decide to cover the eyes over the winter, remove the top cover of soil off the eyes in early spring.  In colder regions below gardening zone 7b, covering the eyes over winter would be advised.
